Monday 25th August 2008
Bill and the new addition to the family - Gismo the puppy - heeded the call of the countryside on Friday, August 15, with Bill heading off from London at lunchtime for Gedding. The call of nature was a good move; Gismo was instantly taken with the Gedding grounds as Bill took Gismo for a walk, then headed back to spend the remainder of the day working on projects.
On Saturday, Bill was visited by the Sudbury Dramatic Society, who were using the grounds for a photo shoot with photographer Jon Sturdy. Bill says that they all turned up in traditional clothes - they are performing The Forsyte Saga at the town's Quay Theatre - and so Bill wnet out to meet them for a chat and to have some photos taken. The photo shown right was taken by Mike Haugh.
Bill later managed to track down a small newspaper article about the day from the East Anglian Daily Times.
It said:
“A Suffolk drama group preparing for a new production was given a helping hand by a rock legend, who offered up his stately home to get the cast in period mood. Sudbury Dramatic Society will be performing The Forsyte Saga later this year at the town's Quay Theatre. But the 13-strong cast was left stunned when, hearing the group needed a backdrop for a photo-shoot, former Rolling Stones bass player Bill Wyman offered his Gedding Hall home.
Producer Sue Clarke said the 16th-Century hall was a "stunning" location and told how Mr Wyman and his family had made the crew feel like "kings and queens of the theatre". She said: "As the shoot got under way we were delighted to be greeted by Bill and the newest addition to the family, Gizmo, a gorgeous Papillon.
"Bill spent time meeting the cast and was very keen to share his vast knowledge of the hall with the cast. We chatted about numerous things and then got onto the subject of metal detecting, which is a subject Bill is very interested in and, being a fellow detectorist myself, gave us much to chat about.
That all said and done we resumed with out photo-shoot getting some fantastic shots of the hall and the cast. We really were treated like the kings and queens of theatre. Michael Haugh, who looks after Gedding Hall, kindly put himself at our disposal and never tired of our endless questions. It was an absolute privilege to be at Gedding Hall and [have] a photograph shoot that cast and director alike will never forget."
In the afternoon, Bill spent time firing off emails, walking Gismo and taking photos.
Sunday was much the same - Bill got up early (before six) and caught up on the Olympics, while working on his projects throughout the morning, and walking Gismo.
