Sunday 24th August 2008
With the planned summer concerts over in Monaco, and Bill's photo exhibition up and running, Bill spent Monday, August 4 in St.Paul with his family, and Dave Stewart's wife Anoushka and her two daughters. Aside from a much-needed break, Bill also packed up for the mammoth trip back to London, on Tuesday.
Having not grabbed too much sleep the night before, Bill and Terry headed off just before 8am, getting to the Euro-Tunnel over 12 hours later - total time back to London took nearly 16 hours. Bill, with an eye ever on the detail, says he clocked up 851 miles on the trip.
On Wednesday, Bill discovered a three-page feature on the Red Cross event in Monaco in the French magazine Gala - though Bill pointed out that it only mentioned Frech guests. Bill kicked off the day at his computer, uploading photos and working on his files, and emailing friends, before unpacking and relaxing.
Despite having just returned, London was a distant memory by the end of the day on Thursday, August 7. Bill headed off to Gedding at lunchtime, arriving to pick up the England-South Africa cricket match on TV. In the evening, Bill continued working on his Stones archive until finally getting to bed in the early hours.
THe next few days were to follow a similar pattern. On Friday, Bill watch more of the cricket, and then went on a photography stroll in the grounds, disturbing a Montjac deer beside the moat - though it move too quickly for Bill to snap off some shots with his camera. Bill also spent time not spent following the cricket or football match working on his projects. Bill continued working through Sunday, August 10 - though he was saddened to hear of the death of Isaac Hayes, who died in the US aged 65.
After the country retreat and a chance to catch up on his projects, on Monday Bill headed back to London - and Suzanne and the girls also arrived back in the UK, with Jessie challenging Bill to a game of pool.
More family fun on Tuesday. Bill watched some of the Olympic coverage on TV, then worked on some business issues - though everything was put aside when Suzanne and the girls arrived back from Harrods with a new puppy for Jessie. Bill says it was a Papillon, and Jessie has called in Gismo. A quick walk in the park - Bill took pictures - then everyone grabbed some food from Bill's Sticky Fingers restaurant.
On Wednesday, Bill spent the day watching the Olympics. A highlight was heading out to a japanese restaurant with Mick Hucknell and Gabriella. Thursday, August 14, and again Bill watches the Olympics during the day, periodically updating his computer files throughout the day.
